Contracting – An Update

By Gareth, January 28, 2009 13:51

Originally, when I was first starting this post, I had intended it to be an update of how well my transition into the world of contracting has gone.

Unfortunately, I have now experienced the downside of being a contractor.

It is now 9 months since I became a contractor, and I have been enjoying every minute of it. That was until last Friday, when I was told that my contract was up. The situation had been uncertain since before Christmas when we were told that there would be a 20% reduction in workforce globally across the company.

Some sites have been worse hit than others, and it was just unfortunate that I was one of the last contractors to be brought into the company. So therefore, I was one of the first out. The relationship with the client has been good, and they have left the door open to return there in the future should the situation improve in the automotive industry.

I suppose that you have to take the rough with the smooth in the contracting world.

At the moment I am getting my CV out to recruitment agencies and contacting other companies. There appears to be a variety of positions available, I just hope that something bites.

If anyone knows of a company requiring the services of a CAD designer with experience in CATIA V5, SDRC I-DEAS then ask them to get in touch with me.

I’ll keep you updated over the coming days about my progress.

I Wonder What He’s Up To

Max

Twelve months ago, we had to say a sad farewell to our dog, Max.

I hope that he has found somewhere good to live, and that he is happy with his new family.

It was a sad day last January, but as we know it was for the best. Max was getting a big dog, and our house could not cope with his size. Especially when Liam was born in July.

Ellie still remembers him, which is good. She is never sad when she talks about him. Occasionally she asks where Max is, and when we tell her that he has gone to live with another family, she replies quite happily, “Ok.”

He was a lovely dog, and deserves to be in a happy home. Sadly, we couldn’t give him the time and the space to run around in that he needed. I hope he is now contented in his new home, wherever that may be.

Good luck for the future Max.

First Tooth for Liam

By Gareth, January 18, 2009 23:12

Liam has got his first tooth poking through his little gums.

It’s been coming for the last couple of days, but today it has finally broken through. Hopefully, in the next few days Liam will co-operate, and I’ll be able to get a photo of it. Who knows!

We’re now expecting a few grouchy moments from him as more of his toothy-pegs come into view.

First Dose of Man-Flu

By Gareth, January 8, 2009 12:04

Barely has the first week of 2009 passed, and I’ve already been hit by my first dose of “Man-Flu”.

I got home from work on Tuesday evening feeling fine, had some dinner, and then less than an hour later I came over all funny. It was a really strange sensation, one minute everything seemed normal, then the next I was feeling very light headed, shivering and a headache was brewing…

At about 9pm, I was feeling pretty rubbish, so I hauled myself up to bed. Wrapping myself up in several layers of clothing and a thick quilt, I soon fell into a pretty decent sleep. I was woken up by Gemma coming to bed, and didn’t feel too bad, the sleep had definitely helped.

A few minutes later I was fast asleep again, and didn’t wake until about 5am when Liam woke up for his nightly drink. I was feeling a bit crap now.

Liam, incidentally, is also feeling poorly. He is snotty, and is totally off his solid food. Thankfully he is taking his milk, so we don’t have to worry too much about whether he is getting enough. He is feeling really sorry for himself, and is so tired. Even his usual smiles are a struggle :(

Anyway, back to me. The past couple of days have been a bit of a blur, seemingly I’ve been going around on autopilot. Trying to work is not easy as concentration is severely lacking at the minute. But at least I’m dragging myself in, and getting things done.

Hopefully this all won’t last too long, I’m sick of feeling like this, and its only been a couple of days.

Liam – 6 Months Old

By Gareth, January 7, 2009 20:11

Liam is now 6 months old! Where has the time gone?

He is doing really well. Gemma took him to be weighed yesterday at the clinic, and the result is that Liam now weighs 18lb exactly.

Liam Sitting Unaided

Day by day Liam is accomplishing more and more. He can sit unaided for a good while, until his little body gets tired and he falls over.

Liam has been on solids for a little while now, and we’ve just introduced him onto 3 meals a day. He really likes his savoury meals, but is not too keen on desserts and sweeter things. Don’t know what’s up with the lad :)

He is turning into a very happy cheeky boy. Liam is always dishing out the smiles to everyone. He is definitely going to be a right cheeky lad.
