F1 – 2009

The 2009 Formula 1 season is nearly upon us. Race number one of the season is in Australia, on the 29th March.

This season is expected to be an exciting one, with the primary reason being the vast number of rule changes that have been implemented. A new, lower, wider front wing and a taller, thinner rear wing along with the return of slick tyres dominate the look of the new generation of F1 cars.

The following picture are taken from the AT&T Williams F1 website, which show the new look cars:

It is hoped that these measures along with other systems, like KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) and adjustable front wings, will create more overtaking opportunities and better, closer racing. For a comprehensive run down of all the rule changes for 2009, F1 Fanatic has a set of articles that would prove useful

One of the other things that I am excited about is the return of the UK coverage of F1 to the BBC. The full details of how they will cover the races was revealed this week. They appear to be fully utilising all of their tools that they have at their disposal, I am particularly looking forward to is being able to watch any of the sessions over a race weekend, along with all the interactivity on the soon to be relaunched website.

All in all, I hope that the 2009 season is one to remember.
