Praia do Marinha

The nearest beach to the was about 5 minutes away and we were usually the first ones on the beach. We always went in the mornings and were usually the first ones on there. Going to the beach in the mornings meant that the sun would not be as strong as it would be later in the day.

The walk down to the beach took a little time, there were so many steps, and especially with Ellie’s little legs. The path winded along the cliff top before dropping down to the beach.

We were greeted by a nice clean beach except for the seaweed that had washed up. This prompted Ellie to say that the beach “smelled”, she’s not too keen on anything that smells, even a little.

We found a bit of shade behind a large rock in the middle of the beach and plonked ourselves down. Once settled we set about with the usual beach activities, building sandcastles, playing football, and even tried to attempt Ellie to go paddling in the sea, but she wouldn’t have it.

Sailing Ship

One day when we were on the beach this sailing ship came into the bay. I think that it was on a day trip of some kind, and I bet the passengers on board were glad that the sea was calm. It was a lovely looking ship.

Each day we’d get onto the beach and after applying all the sun cream I’d try to get Ellie to have a paddle, but to no avail. We’d build plenty of sandcastles and play ball, she really enjoyed this. One day though, Ellie and I were building a sandcastle on the harder sand near the water when we got caught by a freak wave. Ellie was not impressed as all of her legs and skirt got soaked. She ran up the beach to Gemma screaming and crying. Bless her :)

Around lunchtime we’d head off the beach as the temperature began to climb and headed back to the villa to have some lunch, and let Ellie have a little nap to keep her going into the evening.
