The Villa

We arrived at the Villa, which was called Villa Rainha, at about 11am. It was even better than the photos that were on the website.

I won’t describe it too much, I’ll let the photos do the talking.

As you can see we had our own pool, which looked out over the valley. The Villa was quite secluded, so it was a good job we had hired a car. It was close enough to the town and the beach that we were driving for miles, but it was just that bit far that we couldn’t walk, especially with Ellie.

Once we’d got ourselves unpacked we headed out to find some supplies to keep us going for the first day or so. We managed to find a little supermarket and got ourselves bread, milk, ham, cheese and plenty of water and fruit juice. After stocking up with our supplies we headed back to the villa and had some lunch and decided that we’d just have a leisurely afternoon by the pool, partly because we’d been up since the early hours. It was really nice to sit out in the warm (maybe that should be hot!) sunshine and relax.

We all enjoyed many an afternoon lounging about by the pool. Ellie loved the pool, but she would never venture further than the steps of the pool. We’d taken her flotation seat so that she could get into the water, but she was not keen on it at all.

On our last day I did finally manage to get her into the pool and she enjoyed splashing around in my arms. It was really great laughing and joking in the pool.

With the villa, a maid service was provided, and she came each day during the week and did some basic cleaning and kept on top of things. She was a very nice lady, who didn’t speak a lot of English, but it was a lot more than our Portuguese. Always willing to chat, she managed to get her message across and we had a few conversations between us all. Ellie wasn’t too keen on her to begin with and was quite shy, but as the week went on she got used to the maid, who was quite taken with Ellie.

The holiday was just what we all needed. Can’t wait to go on holiday again next year.
