In another first this week, we managed to give Liam a much needed haircut.

In this picture he doesn’t look too impressed by the whole experience.
It was a bit of a struggle at first. Liam kept turning his head to look at the clippers, but eventually he settled down.
He looks so different now.
On Monday morning Ellie asked me a question. You know that question, the one that every parent dreads:
Daddy, who makes us?
“Who makes us?” I replied, hastily thinking of an answer. What do you say to a little girl who is nearly 4 about where she comes from?
Initially my response was that Mummy and Daddy made her. Thankfully though, Ellie threw me a lifeline.
I grow in Mummy’s tummy?
“That’s right,” I said. “You grew in Mummy’s tummy. Mummy made you.”
Phew, I think we got away with that one. Or, maybe not!
Ellie then asked about Liam, and I explained to her that Liam grew inside Mummy’s tummy too. Thinking that everyone must have grown in Mummy’s tummy, Ellie asked me if I’d grown in Gemma’s tummy. I explained to her that I didn’t grow in Mummy’s tummy, but I did grow in my Mummy’s tummy. Ellie then told me that my Mummy was Nana Jen.
You grew in Nana Jen’s tummy?
“That’s right,” I said. ” And Mummy grew in Nana Mandy’s tummy.”
This seemed to satisfy her curiosities. Until next time – I’m dreading what she’s going to ask next!
I am still unsure where the question came from, it was completely out of the blue. It’s not the sort of thing that I would have expected to discuss over breakfast with my daughter. I think that it’s a good sign that her little brain is working and is intrigued by life’s questions. I just wish she’d given me more time to wake up and think about an answer.
Yesterday, Liam crawled for the first time.

He has finally worked out how to get mobile. So, now we are going to have to have eyes in the back of our heads. He’s going to be into everything.
I thought that it was about time that I gave you all an update on what’s been happening lately.
The first bit of news is that our daughter, Ellie, has been accepted into her first choice of school. This is good for her as most the friends that she has made at nursery are going to the same school. It will make the settling-in process a lot easier. At this moment she is very excited about going to “big school.”
Last week Ellie passed two exams in dancing. One was in Ballet, and the other was in Disco. She had great delight in showing me her certificates and her medals. The certificates now have pride of place on the wall in her bedroom.
Well Done Ellie, I’m very proud of you!
Now for Liam. He is turning into a very mischievous little boy. He is getting around a lot easier in his baby-walker and that means that he is getting into everything, as I have previously mentioned. There’s no stopping him now.
His favourite thing at the moment is laughing at me when I am changing his nappy.
A couple of weeks ago I was changing his nappy and he did what all babies do from time to time – weeing all over the floor just after I’d taken his nappy off. He started laughing at me in that cheeky, mischeivous way that only babies can get away with. It was as if he planned the whole incident!
From that moment on, he starts giggling at me every time I try to change him. I get the impression that he is winding me up and he knows exactly what he’s doing.
Liam is starting to find his way around the house in his baby-walker. This means that we are going to have to babyproof the house.
This evening I caught him figuring out how to open the washing machine. Liam is going to be into everything.
Last week we all went on a short break to Center Parcs in the Whinfell Forest near Penrith.
We’d never been to a Center Parcs before so we were a little in the dark about what to expect. A few of our friends had been before and had given us excellent feedback, so we were very excited about going.
We arrived at about 3 o’clock on Monday afternoon, and after a lengthy queue to the drive-thru check-in, got to our “holiday-house”. (As Ellie liked to call it!) We unloaded the car, which then had to be taken back to the main carpark, where it would stay for the duration of our stay. After a short walk back to the lodge, we got ourselves sorted and unpacked our things.
We then settled down with some food and got the kids into bed. It had been a long day for them.
